When I decided to have a private practice to help others become succesful in weight loss and other areas of their lives I thought long and hard of what to name my practice.. I wanted the name to represent the big picture. I was very aware that there are other programs and websites that focus on how to lose weight. I thought to myself “but I want this to be more than simply a weight loss program . I explored the process that occurs when making a change to one’s life. The change is truly the result of actions that have a starting point. I feel that the first step in making a change starts with one making a commitment to change. The textbook definition of the verb “commit” is:
1 to put into charge or trust : entrust
2 to carry into action deliberately : perpetrate
3 obligate, bind
So there it is, the word that I know is so important, the word is “COMMIT”
Now, do I want the commitment to be to me, to my site..Yes ,that is part of it. But, the real commitment has to be to the person who wants to make the change. That person is “you”. You have to commit to yourSELF.
The word “Self “is a noun that means:
“An individual’s awareness of what constitutes his or her essential nature and distinguishes him or her from all others”
Your uniqueness is that “SELF” . It is whom you are and what no one else can be.
That commitment to your “SELF” is the seed you will plant to develop the changes in your life so that they can grow and you can blossem into the person you truly want to be.
Readiness to Change
Often there is an ambivalence towards making changes in our lives. A fear of the unknown may be the root cause of this ambivalence..
FEAR – False Evidence Appearing Real – remember that!
We may not like where we are at in our lives but at least we feel safe . The alternative is frightening. We wonder:
“What will my life be like if I make a change” what doors may open for me?” Will I be able to walk through them?”
How will people react to my change?”
These are the thoughts that may scare us away from following through with change, but staying in a place that may feel safe, but keep us feeling unhappy ….That isn’t such a great plan either. So accept these ambivalent thoughts and turn them into excitement as you embark on a new adventure which can lead you to a better place. Visualize that new exciting place, write it down and read it often..This will keep your vision alive ..This will keep you motivated and that is the key to walking through the door..
Let me open the door for you and together we will walk through it .
To your health,
Lucie
